A man wanted for a shooting that resulted in a woman’s death has been apprehended in a joint operation between the Texarkana Texas Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Rodney Jeral Lindley, aged 41, was arrested on Thursday morning following a tip-off regarding his whereabouts in the city. The suspect had been on the run since the murder of 30-year-old Mercedes Young on September 13.
Authorities were called to a residence on Alexander Avenue, close to the Liberty-Eylau Early Childhood Center, after reports of a disturbance and gunshots were received at around 5 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Young with a gunshot wound. Tragically, she passed away later that day at the hospital.

Lindley, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting, was swiftly identified as the prime suspect. Detectives obtained a murder warrant for his arrest on the same night. Young’s mother, Deann Gregory, revealed in an interview with the Gazette that her daughter had been babysitting a friend’s children at the house where the incident occurred. Gregory expressed confusion over Lindley’s presence and shared that Young’s children alleged an argument had taken place between the suspect and their mother before the fatal shooting.
Lindley was taken into custody on Thursday and is currently being held at the Bi-State Detention Center. As of Thursday afternoon, no bail had been set for him. This incident marks the first homicide in the city this year.
