80-Year-Old Joseph Willis Butler Identified as Victim in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Brunswick County

Troopers are currently investigating a tragic hit and run incident that took place on Wednesday night in Brunswick County. According to a statement released by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when an 80-year-old pedestrian, identified as Joseph Willis Butler from Shallotte, was crossing from Mt. Zion Church Road in Longwood to the west shoulder of N.C. 904. Mr. Butler was attempting to assist a vehicle stuck in a ditch when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle traveling south on N.C. 904.

The collision happened at approximately 8:39 p.m., and sadly, the driver responsible for the hit and run fled the scene without offering any help or reporting the incident. This callous act has left investigators determined to find the driver and bring them to justice.
