69-year-old Gordon Dwyer of Mesquite Killed in Nevada Roundabout Crash

A man in Nevada has tragically lost his life after being struck and killed by a pickup truck while walking in a roundabout. The incident occurred at the intersection of Oasis Boulevard and Ivy Lee Crest in Mesquite on November 15th at approximately 5:10 p.m.

According to the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, the pedestrian, identified as 69-year-old Gordon Dwyer from Mesquite, was walking outside of a designated crosswalk when he entered the lane of the GMC Canyon pickup truck. The driver of the truck was traveling northbound on Oasis Boulevard towards the roundabout when the collision occurred.

Following the accident, emergency services were called to the scene, and Dwyer was transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

This incident marks the 66th fatal crash in the jurisdiction of the NSP Southern Command in 2023, resulting in a total of 80 fatalities. The authorities are urging pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and exercise caution when walking near roadways to prevent further accidents.

Roundabouts, designed to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents, require both drivers and pedestrians to be vigilant and follow traffic rules. Pedestrians should always use marked crosswalks and avoid crossing the road in areas where it may be difficult for drivers to see them.
