Meerut: A 45-year-old athlete was discovered dead on the railway track in Saharanpur on Tuesday. The police suspect that Ramsharan Katariya died as a result of being accidentally hit by a train. However, his family alleges that he took his own life due to a financial crisis.

SHO Janakpuri, Sanuj Kumar, informed TOI that an FIR under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) was filed against Naveen, who had taken Rs 2 lakh from Katariya on the pretext of helping him secure a loan of Rs 25 lakh. The family claims that Katariya’s death was a suicide and Naveen is responsible for not returning the money despite repeated requests.

Ramsharan Katariya, a national-level athlete who competed in the veterans category, leaves behind a grieving family and a void in the sporting community.

In related news, a tragic incident of mass suicide occurred in Tumakuru, Karnataka. A couple and their three children were found dead at their home in Sadashivanagar locality. The deceased, identified as Gareeb Saab, his wife Sumaiyya, and their children, Hajira, Mohammad Shabhan, and Mohammad Muneer, took their lives due to debt. Allegedly tortured by money lenders, the family left behind a suicide note and a self-made video explaining the torment they faced. Five accused individuals have been taken into custody.

In another unfortunate incident, a man died mysteriously at Adarsh Nagar police station in Delhi. Suraj Prakash, who was brought to the police station by beat officers following a road rage incident near Adarsh Nagar metro station, experienced uneasiness and was initially taken to a hospital for a medical examination. His family alleges police brutality as the cause of death. Suraj leaves behind his father and two brothers, who are now demanding justice.
