20-year-old J Subaskumar stabbed to death in Moonandipatti village near Austinpatti

A 20-year-old migrant labourer from Bihar has tragically died after being stabbed in Moonandipatti village near Austinpatti. The victim has been identified as J Subaskumar, hailing from Supaul district in Bihar. His friend, B Sannikumar Basvan, also a labourer, is currently receiving treatment at the Government Rajaji Hospital.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday night. Subaskumar and Sannikumar were walking through the village near the Government Tuberculosis Hospital when three individuals on a bike approached them. The group inquired about Subaskumar and, upon seeing his mobile phone, two of the miscreants got off the bike and snatched it. In an attempt to retrieve his phone, Subaskumar engaged in a fight with the two assailants. Tragically, one of them stabbed him in the chest, causing him to collapse and die on the spot. Sannikumar, who also tried to apprehend the robbers, was injured in the process and has been transferred to the GRH in Madurai for medical care.

The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have formed teams to apprehend the perpetrators. In the meantime, Subaskumar’s family has made the difficult decision to cremate his body in Madurai instead of transporting it back to Bihar. Prior to the cremation, his family was able to see his body through a video call.

The Austinpatti police has registered a case under sections 302 and 394 of the IPC in connection with the incident. This unfortunate incident highlights the vulnerability of migrant workers and the need for improved safety measures to protect them.
