Milwaukee Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for Fatal Shooting
A Milwaukee man has been given a 25-year prison sentence for a fatal shooting that took place on the city’s north side in 2022. Travarus Pierce, 35, was found guilty of first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. In addition to his prison term, he will also serve 10 years of extended supervision.

The incident occurred on May 18, 2022, when police were called to the shooting scene near 38th and Townsend. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 21-year-old man on the ground who was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed that the victim had been shot three times, sustaining wounds to the chest and back. The death was ruled a homicide.
According to a criminal complaint, authorities learned that the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation that occurred at a nearby gas station on 35th and Townsend. Surveillance footage from the gas station showed the victim running away from a man who had pointed a gun at him. The victim had allegedly attempted to rob the man. Later, the victim returned to the parking lot but was denied entry into the store.
Minutes later, an SUV driven by Pierce was captured on surveillance footage pulling into the parking lot. Pierce entered the gas station briefly before engaging in an argument with the victim. The two appeared to be on the verge of a physical altercation, but the victim decided to leave on a bicycle instead. Pierce drove off in his SUV, and both individuals headed west, out of view of the cameras.
A witness reported seeing the victim on his bicycle and warned him to go home, stating that no one should pull a gun on him. The witness then saw Pierce’s SUV in his rearview mirror, with the victim striking the SUV’s window and making offensive gestures. The SUV made a U-turn, and the witness heard three to four gunshots before the victim collapsed.

The witness positively identified Pierce as the driver of the SUV and confirmed the vehicle’s involvement in the shooting. Pierce, however, maintained his innocence, claiming that he and the victim had exchanged heated words but denying any knowledge of the shooting.
After being taken into custody, Pierce told police that gas station employees had warned him about the victim’s intentions to steal his car keys. He stated that he and the victim had engaged in a verbal confrontation before he left the gas station after paying for his gas.
Pierce’s denial of involvement in the shooting was refuted by the evidence presented in court, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
