In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old Indian student named Om Brahmbhatt has been arrested and charged with the alleged murder of his grandparents and uncle inside a condominium in New Jersey. The incident occurred at the Traditions condo complex on Coppola Drive, after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots around 9 am on Monday.
According to the South Plainfield Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Om Brahmbhatt is accused of fatally shooting Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt (72), Bindu Brahmbhatt (72), and Yashkumar Brahmbhatt (38). When officers arrived at the scene, they found the married couple, Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt, shot to death in their second-floor apartment. Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, their son, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Om Brahmbhatt, who had recently moved to New Jersey from Gujarat, was present at the scene when authorities arrived and was taken into custody for questioning. He has since been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and second-degree weapon possession. It is unclear whether he has legal representation at this time.
The suspect had only been residing at the condominium for a few months, according to sources. NBC New York reported that this tragic incident adds another layer of shock to the community, as Om had just moved into the area.
Om Brahmbhatt was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing. During a court appearance, he appeared calm. In a chilling statement to the police, when asked about the incident, Om reportedly said, “It might be me.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident. Neighbors expressed their shock, with one mentioning a previous domestic violence call at the condominium. The Traditions apartment complex, which is home to many Indian immigrant families, has numerous security cameras that neighbors hope will aid in the investigation.
