Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning when 17-year-old Jordan Culley lost his life in a horrific car crash on Indian Ocean Drive near Leeman, Western Australia. Culley, a talented footballer, was driving a Toyota Landcruiser station wagon when the vehicle veered off the road and rolled over multiple times.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but Culley’s injuries proved fatal. The three passengers in the car, a 16-year-old boy, a 20-year-old man, and an 18-year-old woman, were transported to hospital. Thankfully, they are in stable condition.

Culley was a beloved member of the Cervantes Tiger Sharks reserve grade side in the Central Midlands Coastal Football League. The club took to Facebook to express their grief and pay tribute to the young athlete. Last year, Culley and his older brother Blake won a premiership together with the team. He was also recognized as the Runner Up Fairest & Best and finished third in the association, The Ian Wyatt Medal.
The news of Culley’s untimely demise has left the community in shock. Locals and friends have flooded social media with heartfelt messages, remembering him as an amazing young man taken too soon.
The crash site revealed a somber scene, with personal belongings scattered on the side of the road, including a guitar and a box of alcohol. Indian Ocean Drive, known for its dangerous nature, has seen around 190 car accidents in recent years, cementing its reputation as one of the deadliest roads in Western Australia.
Unfortunately, Culley’s tragedy is not the first on this notorious strip of road. In June this year, a man lost his life in a two-vehicle crash, and back in December 2018, three Chinese tourists were killed when a utility vehicle collided with their mini-bus after the driver suffered a medical episode.
