Maine Woman Arrested for Murder of Boyfriend and Grandmother: Tzara Jones Charged in Double Homicide

A woman from Maine has been arrested in connection with the murder of her boyfriend and grandmother, both of whom she was entrusted to take care of, according to Maine State Police. Tzara Jones, 53, was taken into custody on two counts of murder after police discovered the deceased bodies of her boyfriend and grandmother during a welfare check at her home.

Police reported that Jones had told her father and sister that she was “tired of taking care of” both her partner and grandmother. The victims have been identified as Aremean Mayo, 93, and Michael Willett, 69, according to local news outlet WMTW. When police arrived at the residence for the welfare check, Jones claimed that Willett was out hunting. However, investigators later discovered that Willet was a wheelchair user and would not have been able to go hunting.

Neighbors of Jones and Willet expressed shock at the news, with one neighbor stating that Willet had suffered a stroke two years prior and had been using a wheelchair since. Jones was uncooperative with officers who requested to search the home, even going so far as to insult and verbally abuse one of the officers.

Upon searching the residence, police found the bodies of Willett and Mayo, both with multiple stab wounds to the chest. They also recovered a butcher-style knife near Mayo’s body. The grandmother’s body had sustained stab wounds both before and after death, more than 24 hours before it was discovered.

Jones’ father and sister confirmed to police that she had expressed frustration about caring for her partner and grandmother. Jones’ sister also informed authorities that she suspected her sibling of killing their grandmother in hopes of inheriting from her.

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
