A man has been arrested as a person of interest in a murder investigation in Lexington County, South Carolina, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Jesse Lou Gregory, aged 34, is facing additional charges in connection with the shooting death of a man earlier this month.

Sheriff Jay Koon stated that the charges against Gregory stem from an investigation into a body discovered on November 12 at the intersection of Old Barnwell Road and White Knoll Way. Gregory was identified as a person of interest and subsequently arrested on November 13. He has been charged with desecrating human remains after allegedly discarding the body of the shooting victim.

Authorities allege that Gregory shot Nicholas Kenneth Hendrix with a shotgun. However, Sheriff Koon highlighted inconsistencies in Gregory’s account of the events leading up to the shooting. Moreover, Hendrix’s injuries and evidence collected from the car do not align with Gregory’s version of events.

In addition to the murder charge, Gregory has also been charged with grand larceny, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and circumventing an electronic monitoring device. The latter charge relates to Gregory’s failure to properly charge a GPS electronic ankle monitoring device, which he was required to wear as a condition of his bond from a previous charge.

The investigation revealed that Gregory had stolen a car the day before the shooting. He was apprehended in Aiken County while in possession of the stolen vehicle.

Gregory is currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to pre-trial conditions and the potential consequences for failing to do so.
