A 23-year-old Indian student has been arrested for allegedly killing his grandparents and uncle in the United States. Om Brahmbhatt is accused of shooting Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt and Bindu Brahmbhatt, both 72, and his uncle, Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, 28, in Middlesex County, New Jersey. He is facing three counts of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting.
The incident took place at a residence in South Plainfield at around 9 am local time. Om confessed to shooting his grandparents while they slept in their bedroom, and then went to a back bedroom where he fired multiple rounds at his uncle. He purchased the handgun online and called emergency number 911 to confess the crime.

Dilipkumar and Bindu were pronounced dead at the scene, while Yashkumar, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, later died at the hospital. The relationship between the suspect and the victims was not immediately specified, but they were later identified as Om’s maternal grandparents and uncle. Om resided with the victims.
The motive for the murder remains unknown. According to neighbors, the family lived a quiet life and was not well known in the area. The Traditions apartment complex, where the incident occurred, is home to many young families who emigrated from India. Neighbors hope that security cameras in the complex can aid in the investigation.
This was not the first time police had been called to the condo. There had been a previous incident of domestic violence. Om had relocated to the US about 18 months ago for higher studies. He has been taken into custody and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The investigation by the South Plainfield Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that there is no threat to the public as it was not a random act of violence. Authorities are continuing the investigation to uncover the motive behind the tragic incident.
