Former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Employee Involved in Self-Defense Shooting: Robert Hoy, 69, Pronounced Dead

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Clark County District Attorney’s Office will decide if charges are warranted in a self-defense shooting involving a former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department employee, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a man identified as Robert Hoy, 69, was shot on November 21 in the southwest Las Vegas valley. Dispatchers received a report of the incident at around 1:36 p.m. The shooting occurred in the 7200 block of Arroyo Crossing Parkway in Spring Valley.

Detectives investigating the case revealed that Hoy had parked his vehicle directly behind the retired LVMPD employee’s vehicle. Hoy then approached the retired employee’s vehicle with a firearm. In response, the former LVMPD employee exited his vehicle and shot at Hoy.

Hoy was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Based on the evidence obtained and the self-defensive nature of the shooting, investigators concluded that the retired LVMPD employee should be released at the scene.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine if any charges will be filed.
