Double Homicide in West Augustine: Cody Bennett and Tre Lyons Shot and Killed

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in Florida is currently investigating a double homicide that took place in West Augustine. The incident occurred on Monday, November 27th on Orange Street, close to an elementary school.

The families of the two men who were tragically killed are devastated and seeking answers. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for the suspects responsible for the shooting that occurred inside the victims’ car.

A local resident expressed his shock at the incident, saying, “I heard a few shootings on King Street, but not so close. You know? It’s just, I don’t know. You never know. It could happen anywhere, anytime.”

The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. on Monday night, prompting the St. Johns County deputies to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a fence with two men inside who had been shot. Unfortunately, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Cody Bennett, 21, and Tre Lyons, 22. Both families are currently grieving the loss of their loved ones.

Bennett’s family revealed that despite some previous troubles, he was working hard to turn his life around and was set to graduate from H-Vac school in February. Court records show that Bennett had previously been found guilty of aggravated assault and was also facing drug charges.

Lyons’ family, on the other hand, shared that he leaves behind three young children, all under the age of two. A family member described him as determined, ambitious, and humble, stating that he was loved by everyone he came in contact with.

The families are now seeking answers and justice for their loved ones. Fabian Taylor, a resident of the neighborhood who knew Lyons, expressed his sadness, saying, “It’s sad to see that, kids gonna grow up without a dad now. That’s really like a shame, just because someone wanted to be violent.”

The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, and the bodies have not yet been released to the families. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
