Damion McKinney Arrested for Aggravated Assault in Shooting of Jerry Rowley

VALDOSTA – A 52-year-old man has been arrested for aggravated assault following a shooting investigation carried out by Valdosta Police Officers.

Damion McKinney, a 44-year-old African American male and resident of Valdosta, has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the incident. The victim, Jerry Rowley, a 52-year-old Caucasian male, was found with severe facial injuries on November 23, 2023, in the 300 block of East Adair Street. When emergency services arrived, they discovered that Rowley had also sustained a gunshot wound to his face. He was immediately taken to South Georgia Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Florida for further treatment.

Detectives and Crime Scene Personnel were called to the scene to investigate the incident. Through their inquiries, detectives determined that Rowley had been shot approximately one hour before he was found by a concerned citizen. Following up on tips and conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area, detectives identified McKinney as the shooter. The investigation revealed that the assault was unprovoked and malicious.

On November 24, 2023, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for McKinney and executed a search warrant at his residence. McKinney was apprehended without incident. During the search, detectives discovered evidence linking him to the shooting.

McKinney now faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He has been transported to Lowndes County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings. The case remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

The victim, Jerry Rowley, remains in critical condition, receiving medical care for his injuries.
