Tragic Accident Claims Life of Bike-Cab Aggregator Rider in Delhi

A 30-year-old rider working for a bike-cab aggregator service lost his life in a head-on collision between a car and his bike in southwest Delhi’s Delhi Cantonment. The incident took place on November 25, and no arrests have been made so far.

The victim, identified as Himanshu, resided in Lado Sarai. The accident was reported to the police around 7:30 pm. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found the front of the scooter completely damaged, with blood splattered on the ground. A black car was also found damaged a few meters away. Himanshu was rushed to the hospital by a passerby in an autorickshaw, but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.

The Delhi Cantt police station registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are currently investigating whether the victim was on duty at the time of the accident and have reached out to the aggregator service for information.

Unfortunately, there were no eyewitnesses to the incident, and there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity. The police are still determining who was at fault during the collision and plan to question the car driver soon. Additionally, they are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death.

According to data shared by the Delhi Police, motorcyclists were among the most vulnerable victims in road crashes last year, accounting for 37.78% of all fatalities and 43.49% of all injuries.

This tragic incident highlights the need for improved road safety measures and stricter regulations to protect vulnerable road users, such as bike-cab riders. It serves as a reminder for both motorists and riders to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent such accidents in the future.
