27-year-old Brian Holben Wanted in Connection to Trooper-Involved Shooting

Police in Delaware are searching for a man wanted in connection with a shooting involving a state trooper on Monday night. The incident occurred when officers attempted to apprehend a known fugitive, identified as 27-year-old Brian Holben, in a parking lot in Greenwood.

According to reports, the Kent County Governor’s Task Force and Probation and Parole located Holben driving a Jeep Cherokee and initiated a traffic stop. However, Holben attempted to flee by using his vehicle to push two State Police vehicles out of the way. Detectives then tried to remove Holben from the Jeep, at which point he allegedly pointed a handgun at one of the detectives and fired. In response, the detectives returned fire, but Holben managed to escape on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Authorities have described Holben as armed and dangerous and have issued a warrant for his arrest. He is wanted on charges including first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.

In accordance with standard operating procedures, the troopers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted into the use of force. Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with information on Holben’s whereabouts to come forward.

Delaware State Police have asked that anyone with information about the incident or Holben’s location contact Detective B. McDerby at 302-741-2821. The search for Holben continues, and authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and not approach him if spotted.
