A 23-year-old Indian student has been arrested and charged for allegedly shooting three of his family members to death in a condominium in the US State of New Jersey, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. The incident occurred at the Traditions condo complex in South Plainfield on Monday morning.
The accused, identified as Om Brahmbhatt, reportedly shot his grandparents Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt and Bindu Brahmbhatt, as well as his uncle Yashkumar Brahmbhatt. While Om’s grandparents were found dead, Yashkumar was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

Om, who recently moved to New Jersey from Gujarat, resided with the victims at the condominium. He was the one who called 911 and when asked about the shooter, he said, “It might be me.” He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and second-degree weapon possession.
According to neighbours, the incident was shocking and unsettling. One neighbour, Jim Short, mentioned that there had been a previous domestic violence call at the residence. The Traditions apartment complex, where the incident took place, is known for housing many Indian families and is equipped with numerous security cameras.
The South Plainfield Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Detective Thomas Rutter from South Plainfield and Detective Javier Morillo from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office have determined that there is no threat to the public and that this was not a random act of violence.
The case has raised concerns among the residents of the apartment complex, who are hoping that the security cameras will provide valuable evidence for the investigation.

Om Brahmbhatt appeared before a court on Tuesday in a calm demeanour. He has been remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.
The investigation into the motive behind the shooting is ongoing, and the authorities are working to gather more information.
