18-Year-Old Photigo Monareng Dies After Being Stabbed by Schoolmates

An 18-year-old student from Maope High School tragically lost his life on Tuesday after being stabbed in the upper body by two fellow students. The incident occurred following a heated argument between two groups of boys, which escalated into a physical altercation.

According to Brig Hlulani Mashaba, the spokesperson for the police, the victim sustained serious injuries from the stabbing. A community member who witnessed the incident rushed the victim to the hospital. Sadly, the young student was declared dead upon arrival. The deceased has been identified as Photigo Monareng by his family.

During the arrests of the suspects, authorities confiscated three knives, a hammer, and an axe. The two individuals arrested are expected to appear in the Bela Bela magistrate’s court on Thursday, facing charges of murder.

In response to this tragic event, Limpopo police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe condemned bullying and violence among students. Lt-Gen Hadebe expressed concern about the increasing prevalence of bullying and the embedded culture of violence within schools. She urged parents, teachers, and students to report any incidents of bullying or violence immediately, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Lt-Gen Hadebe stressed the importance of holding those responsible for these acts accountable.

The incident has left the community of Maope High School in shock and mourning. The loss of a young life has once again highlighted the urgent need for measures to address the issue of violence in schools. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from unchecked aggression and conflict among students.

The local authorities, along with the school administration, are expected to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
