The incident occurred late Friday night at a home on Maple Avenue. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and screams coming from the residence. When the officers arrived at the scene, the husband, Arnel Redfern, came out of the house and began firing at them. The officers returned fire, fatally injuring him.

Inside the house, they discovered the body of his wife, Maxine Redfern. The Baltimore County Police Department is focusing its investigation on her homicide, while the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigation Division is looking into the officer-involved shooting.

Maxine Redfern had recently filed for divorce and obtained a protective order against her husband. In the court documents, she accused him of domestic violence and highlighted his extensive criminal history. The incident has left the community in shock, as it is the first case in Baltimore County and only the second in the state of Maryland to be investigated by the Attorney General’s office since a revised state law mandated their involvement in officer-involved shootings.

Authorities are currently awaiting autopsy results and conducting forensic and ballistic analyses. They will also review body-worn camera footage as part of their investigation. The officers involved in the shooting are cooperating with the investigation, and none of them sustained any injuries.
