Young Drivers Identified as Frequent Offenders in Kota Kinabalu’s Traffic Violations: A Wake-Up Call for Road Safety

By | November 26, 2023

Young drivers in Kota Kinabalu have been identified as the most frequent traffic violators, according to a recent operation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Led by Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Lokman Jamaan, the operation lasted for a month and resulted in the issuance of notices and vehicle seizures.

The findings revealed that individuals aged between 15 and 35 years were involved in road accidents due to a variety of offenses. These violations ranged from not having a valid driving license, insurance, or road tax, to a lack of proper training in road safety. Shockingly, some of the offenders claimed to be skilled drivers without any formal training or a valid license.

The report also highlighted unrelated incidents, including the detention of individuals in traffic-related incidents and a disturbing offer to assassinate the Prime Minister on TikTok. While these incidents may seem unrelated, they demonstrate the broader challenges faced by society today.

These findings emphasize the need for stricter enforcement of road rules, especially for young drivers. It is crucial to provide comprehensive road safety education to prevent such violations. The increasing number of traffic violations and related incidents should serve as a wake-up call for stronger measures and collective responsibility to ensure road safety for everyone.
