Elderly Woman and Grandson Found Dead in Water Sump in Erode

ERODE: Tragedy struck the town of Puliampatty in Erode district on Saturday when the lifeless bodies of a woman and her grandson were discovered in a water sump. The victims have been identified as N Subbammal, 82, and her grandson P Naveen Kumar, 30, who had polio. The cause of their deaths is yet to be determined.

According to the police, Naveen’s father, Ponnusamy, 52, had two wives, and Naveen was born to the first wife, Vasanthamani, who passed away due to an illness 12 years ago. Since then, Naveen had been under the care of his maternal grandmother, Subbammal.

On Sunday morning, around 10 am, Ponnusamy visited Subbammal’s house to meet her and Naveen but was unable to locate them. After a desperate search, he discovered their lifeless bodies in a water sump behind the house. He immediately alerted the police, who retrieved the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination. The sump, measuring 15 feet deep, was where the bodies were found floating.

The exact circumstances leading to their deaths remain unknown, and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause. The police have not ruled out any possibilities and are considering all angles.

The shocking incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Neighbors and relatives expressed their grief and disbelief over the tragic demise of the elderly woman and her disabled grandson.
