Widow Woman Shot Dead for Refusing Marriage Proposal

A tragic incident unfolded in Kohat on Saturday when a man allegedly shot and killed a widow woman after she refused to marry him. The victim, identified as Nausheen, was accompanied by her father as they were heading to the bazaar. Suddenly, the accused, Gul Mohammad, confronted them, brandishing a pistol. He mercilessly opened fire on Nausheen, instantly ending her life.

Ahmed Khan, the grieving father, recounted the horrifying events to the police. He stated that Gul Mohammad had been persistently pursuing Nausheen for marriage, but she had repeatedly declined his proposal. This refusal seemed to have enraged Gul Mohammad, leading him to commit this heinous act. After committing the crime, the suspect managed to flee the scene, leaving the family devastated.

Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the incident, arriving at the location and transporting Nausheen’s lifeless body to KDA Teaching Hospital. Following the necessary procedures, her autopsy was conducted, and subsequently, her remains were handed over to her grieving relatives for burial. Meanwhile, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

In a separate incident, three revenue officials have faced suspension due to their failure to complete the computerization process for approximately 9,000 land transfers. The suspended officials, including Tehsildar Amir, Girdawar Shehzad Khan, and Deputy Director Database Ziaullah, were responsible for computerizing the remaining Mozas, which span thousands of acres of land.

According to a notification obtained by Dawn, only 145 out of the total 149 Mozas had their land records successfully computerized. Each Moza consists of numerous mutations, and the computerization process aims to curb unauthorized land transfers. However, due to the officials’ negligence, the project remains incomplete, jeopardizing the prevention of rampant illegal transfers.

These incidents highlight the need for swift justice in cases of violence against women and the importance of efficient public servants in completing essential tasks. The authorities must ensure a thorough investigation into Nausheen’s murder, and the suspended officials should be held accountable for their negligence in the land record computerization project.
