Tragedy Strikes: The Heartbreaking Story of Shola’s Miscarriage After a Plane Incident

By | November 26, 2023

In just 14 days, three runway excursions have occurred in two international airports in the country, raising serious concerns about aviation safety. This year alone, there have been 10 reported incidents, causing worry among experts and passengers alike. To prevent a repeat of the tragic events of 2005 when aircraft were falling from the sky, experts are calling for safer airspace, better navigational tools, and improved equipment.

One woman, Shola, experienced the terrifying reality of an aircraft incident firsthand. She had recently conceived after years of trying, and in her third month of pregnancy, she boarded a flight from Lagos to Abuja for a wedding job. However, upon landing at the Ilorin International Airport, the plane’s tires burst, causing panic among the passengers. Fortunately, no one was injured, but Shola lost her baby shortly after due to the trauma she endured.

This incident is not an isolated one. Air Peace, the airline involved in Shola’s incident, had a similar incident in 2019 when one of their planes had a tire blowout at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The pilot managed to control the plane, preventing a disaster, but the incident left passengers terrified.

These incidents are part of a concerning trend in the aviation industry this year. There have been multiple plane crashes, skidding off runways, and belly landings, causing experts to worry about the safety of air travel in the country. With the current socioeconomic turmoil, the country cannot afford any more plane crashes.

Aviation authorities need to prioritize safety measures, including regular inspections, maintenance, and training for pilots and crew members. Improved navigational tools and equipment are also crucial for preventing accidents. The Accident Investigation Bureau is responsible for investigating aviation-related disasters, but in some cases, they choose not to investigate, which raises questions about transparency and accountability.

Shola’s tragic experience serves as a reminder that aviation safety should be a top priority. Passengers should feel confident that their lives are not at risk when they board a plane. It is crucial for all stakeholders in the aviation industry to work together to ensure safer skies and prevent further accidents and tragedies.
