Post-mortem reports have confirmed that suffocation was the main cause of death for the four individuals who died in a stampede during a song festival organized in connection with Techfest at Kochi University of Science and Technology. The reports revealed that the victims suffered lung injuries, leading to asphyxiation.
According to the post-mortem report, the deceased individuals, identified as Athul Thambi, Ann Ruftha, Sara Thomas, and Albin Joseph, experienced difficulty in breathing due to lung injuries. They also had injuries to their neck and chest.

The incident occurred during a live musical performance featuring renowned singer Nikita Gandhi. The festival, exclusively for engineering students, was disrupted by unexpected rainfall, causing the audience to hastily seek shelter. Eyewitnesses claim that the delay in opening the main gates contributed to the stampede.
The injured individuals were quickly transported to various hospitals for treatment. However, despite efforts to save them, the four victims succumbed to their injuries.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and several ministers expressed their grief over the incident. The university authorities held a meeting with the medical board of Kalamassery Medical College, where it was decided to discharge 24 individuals who were undergoing treatment. The health condition of the remaining three individuals in the ICU had improved, and one of them was transferred to another facility.
The body of one of the victims, Ann Ruftha, is scheduled to be brought to her home for a public viewing before the cremation ceremony. Her mother, who works in Italy, is expected to arrive in Kerala to attend the proceedings.
