Mervin Briggs, the victim of the crash, was driving his 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 when the vehicle veered off Louisiana Hwy. 1058 and collided with a tree. Louisiana State Police reported that Briggs was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The incident took place near the intersection of Hwy. 1059, and the exact cause of the crash is still being investigated. State Police stated that Briggs lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the highway and crash into the tree. Sadly, Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
