A couple has been arrested by Odisha police for allegedly killing a 21-year-old woman and chopping her body into 30 pieces. The dismembered body parts were found in a forest near Murumdihi village in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district. Aditya Sen, Umerkote sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), stated that the couple was apprehended following a complaint from the deceased woman’s parents. The body was discovered by the police on Saturday afternoon.
The victim, Tilabati Gond from Baghbeda village, had been missing since Wednesday evening. Her parents reported her disappearance to the local police station on Thursday. “The deceased woman’s father identified the body from her face,” said the SDPO.

The suspects, Chandra Rout (27) and his wife from Muramdihi village, confessed to the crime after being interrogated by the police. The investigation revealed that Gond had been in a relationship with Rout, who was already married, for the past two years. On Wednesday evening, she went to Rout’s house and demanded that he marry her. This led to a heated argument between Rout, his wife, and Gond. The altercation turned violent, resulting in the woman’s death. The couple then took the body to a forest in Murrumdihi village and used a meat cleaver to chop it into pieces. They packed the remains into a styrofoam container before burying it and burning her clothes.
The gruesome crime came to light on Saturday morning when a local resident noticed blood at the base of a tamarind tree near the crime scene. The villagers informed the police, who subsequently exhumed the dismembered body parts.
The arrested couple now faces charges of murder and desecration of a corpse. The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited. This shocking incident highlights the importance of maintaining law and order in society and ensuring the safety of individuals.
