Rohingya Community Leader Hacked to Death in Cox’s Bazar Camp
In a shocking incident, a Rohingya community leader was brutally hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in the Ukhiya Rohingya camp of Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place at Rohingya camp-19 around 11:30 am, according to local reports.

The victim, identified as Ata Ullah, 34, was a community leader (Sub-Majhi) of that block. He was taken from block A/1 to block A/9, where he was attacked and killed by the miscreants. Armed Police Battalion personnel on duty rescued him and rushed him to an NGO-run hospital adjacent to the camp, and later to Ukhiya Health Complex. However, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Authorities believe that the motive behind the killing was a struggle for supremacy within the camp. Ata Ullah’s body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, and legal action is being taken in this regard, according to the officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, Shamim Hossain.
The Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar have been a site of immense suffering and humanitarian crisis since the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar in 2017. The camps are overcrowded, with poor living conditions and limited access to basic necessities. Incidents of violence and crime within the camps are not uncommon, with various groups vying for control and power.
The brutal killing of Ata Ullah has once again highlighted the need for increased security measures and protection for the Rohingya community in the camps. Human rights organizations and international bodies have called for immediate action to address these issues and ensure the safety and well-being of the Rohingya refugees.
