Five People, Including Four of a Family, Killed in Rajshahi Highway Accident

Five people, including four members of a family, were tragically killed in a road accident on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway in Rajshahi’s Belpukur area. The incident occurred when a truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Saturday afternoon.

The victims, identified as 17-year-old Sharmin, her aunt Parvin Begum (35), uncle Ayub Ali Labu (33), her grandfather Insab Ali, and auto-rickshaw driver Mokhles (45), were declared dead upon arrival at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Another person, Hridoy (18), sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

According to Jamirul Islam, the additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, the accident took place around 3:00 pm when the truck rear-ended the three-wheeler. The impact caused the auto-rickshaw to fall into a nearby ditch. Following the collision, the truck also hit a roadside shop before ending up in the same ditch.

The family members were traveling from Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila to Rajshahi. Sharmin was a student in the eleventh grade at Shah Makhdum College in Rajshahi.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident and whether any negligence or recklessness played a role. Accidents like these highlight the need for stricter road safety measures and improved enforcement to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring.
