A woman in Philadelphia has been sentenced to several decades in prison after pleading guilty to causing a fatal car crash while driving under the influence. Jayana Webb, 23, admitted to three counts each of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while intoxicated in a Philadelphia courtroom. The incident occurred in March 2022 on Interstate 95, when Webb’s vehicle struck and killed two state troopers and a pedestrian.
Webb was sentenced to 27 and a half to 60 years in prison, a decision that has been described by District Attorney Larry Krasner as a “just resolution” for one of the most shocking cases of vehicular violence in recent memory. The troopers, identified as Martin Mack III and Branden Sisca, were attempting to help a pedestrian to safety when they were all struck by Webb’s speeding vehicle. All three victims died at the scene.

Defense attorney Michael Walker shared that Webb, who is currently seven months pregnant, will be allowed to remain out of custody until she gives birth in February. Following the birth, she will have some time to bond with her child before reporting to prison. Walker also stated that Webb expressed deep sorrow and offered her apologies to the families of the victims during the court proceedings.
Previous court hearings focused on Webb’s blood alcohol content and her social media activity. Authorities revealed that her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and active components of marijuana were also found in her system. Webb had posted on social media earlier in the morning, mentioning that she had been stopped for driving at a high speed. The troopers who had stopped her were redirected to assist the pedestrian in danger, leading to the tragic collision.
Trooper Mack had been serving since 2014 and was assigned to the Philadelphia barracks, while Trooper Sisca had enlisted in 2021 and had a promising future ahead of him. Colonel Robert Evanchick, the state police commissioner, expressed deep regret that their lives were senselessly cut short. The sentencing of Jayana Webb brings some closure to this devastating incident, but the pain and loss felt by the victims’ families will endure.
