Two Workers Killed in Naxalite Attack at Iron Ore Mine in Narayanpur District

Two workers were killed and another was injured in an explosion at an iron ore mine site in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday. The incident occurred at around 7:30 am when the three workers were heading to work at the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine. The mine, which is located around 350 km away from the state capital Raipur, is operated by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), and has been a subject of opposition by Naxalites for some time.

According to a senior police official, it appears that the workers triggered a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted by the Naxalites. The blast resulted in the death of Ritesh Gagda (21) and Shravan Gagda (24), who were both residents of Narayanpur district. Initially reported as missing, Shravan’s body was later found at the blast site. The injured worker, Umesh Rana, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, security personnel have launched a search operation in the area. The Naxalites, a left-wing extremist group, have been engaged in a long-standing opposition to the iron ore mining project in Aamdai Ghati. The tragic incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by workers and authorities in the region.

The explosion serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh. Despite efforts by the government to counter their activities, the group continues to carry out attacks and disrupt development projects.
