Two Workers Killed in Naxalite Attack at Iron Ore Mine in Chhattisgarh: Ritesh Gagda (21) and Shravan Gagda (24) Identified as Victims

Two workers were killed and another injured after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated at an iron ore mine site in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday, according to police reports. The incident occurred around 7:30 am as the three workers were on their way to work at the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine, located around 350 km away from the state capital Raipur.

The mine, which is operated by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), has been a subject of opposition from Naxalites for quite some time. Preliminary investigations suggest that the workers accidentally triggered the blast when they came in contact with the pressure IED connection.

The victims have been identified as Ritesh Gagda (21) and Shravan Gagda (24), both residents of Narayanpur district. Shravan’s body, who was initially reported missing, was found at the blast site. The injured worker, Umesh Rana, has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

Security personnel have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the Naxalites responsible for planting the explosive device. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of workers in the region and the ongoing conflict between Naxalites and industrial projects.

Narayanpur district, located in the southern part of Chhattisgarh, has witnessed several instances of Naxalite violence in the past. The Naxalite insurgency, which seeks to overthrow the Indian government and establish a communist state, has been active in the region for many years.

Authorities are urging caution and vigilance among workers and companies operating in areas affected by Naxalite activities. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by businesses and workers in these regions.
