Two workers were killed and another was injured in a tragic incident at an iron ore mine in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh. The blast occurred when the workers were heading to work at the Aamdai Ghati mine early on Friday morning. The mine, operated by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), has been a source of contention with Naxalites opposing the project.

According to a senior police official, it appears that the workers accidentally triggered a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) while on their way to the mine. The explosion resulted in the deaths of Ritesh Gagda, aged 21, and Shravan Gagda, aged 24, both residents of Narayanpur district. Shravan, who had initially been reported missing, was later found dead at the blast site. Umesh Rana, the injured worker, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

JNIL had been allocated the iron ore mine in Aamdai Ghati, but the project has faced opposition from Naxalites for a significant period. The group has been actively opposing mining activities in the region, often resorting to violent means to express their dissent.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by industries operating in areas affected by Naxalite insurgency. It also underscores the need for heightened security measures and proper safety protocols to protect the lives of workers. The authorities must take immediate action to ensure the safety of workers in such vulnerable areas and prevent further loss of life.
