Two workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion at an iron ore mine in Narayanpur district, Bastar. The incident occurred on Friday morning as the workers were on their way to work at the Aamdai Ghati mine, located around 350 km from Raipur, the state capital.

The iron ore mine in Aamdai Ghati is operated by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL). However, the project has faced opposition from Maoists for an extended period.

The victims have been identified as Ritesh Gagda, 21, and Shravan Gagda, 24, both residents of Narayanpur district. Another worker, Umesh Rana, sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.

This incident follows a similar blast on November 6 in the neighboring Kanker district, where two polling personnel and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan were injured. It is believed that Maoists were responsible for that explosion as well.

Authorities are concerned about the increasing frequency of such incidents in the region. Security measures have been heightened in an effort to protect workers and prevent further attacks.

The iron ore mining industry plays a significant role in the local economy, providing jobs and contributing to the region’s development. However, the ongoing conflict with Maoist groups poses a threat to the industry and the safety of its workers.

Efforts are being made to address these security challenges and ensure the safety of workers in the mining sector. The deployment of additional police forces and ongoing combing operations are steps taken to counter the threat posed by Maoists and protect workers in the region.
