Police Corporal Ryan Languido Baculi Shot Dead in Anti-Drug Operation; Tanods Charged as Accomplices

The police have pressed charges against two local security officers from Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, who are accused of aiding the suspects in the escape of Police Corporal Ryan Languido Baculi. Tanods Danilo Ricaplaza Gipo and Ildefonso Fernandez Pepino Jr. have been named as the defendants, as per information obtained from the fiscal’s office.

During an anti-illegal drug operation at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Baculi, a member of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU 7), sustained four gunshot wounds. The operation took place in Sitio Pagtambayayong, located in Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City. Baculi, serving as the undercover buyer, was shot while attempting to apprehend the targets, Atong Bacalso Rafols and Ramil Salazar, both residents of Sitio Pagtambayayong.

The suspects became aware that they were involved in a transaction with a police officer and opened fire on Baculi. The wounded officer was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The police investigation revealed that Gipo and Pepino allegedly played a role in assisting the suspects in their escape. The charges were filed against the two tanods based on this evidence. It is expected that further details will emerge during the judicial process.
