An investigation has been launched by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) following a shooting incident in Washington D.C. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, when an officer was wounded and a suspect was killed. The MPD has not released the identity of the officer, who is currently recovering from multiple gunshot wounds in the hospital.
According to the United States Police Police, the officer approached the suspect regarding an alleged narcotics violation. However, the suspect fled the scene, leading to a confrontation where both the suspect and the officer fired shots at each other. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Turell Delonte Campbell, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.

In a press conference, officials stated that body camera footage of the incident will be made public within 30 days. The MPD also announced that an internal affairs investigation has been initiated, and the evidence and facts will be independently reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office.
