Former Swechchhasebak League leader shot dead in Jhenaidah

A former leader of the Swechchhasebak League, Shamim Hossain, was allegedly shot dead by a group of miscreants in Jhenaidah district on Thursday night. The incident took place in the village of Shura under Harinakunda upazila at around 9:30pm.

Shamim Hossain, 43, who was the former general secretary of the Harinakunda municipality unit of Swechchhasebak League, was attacked while sitting on the bank of a pond adjacent to his home. The assailants shot him in the chest and hacked him with locally made sharp weapons before fleeing the scene, leaving Shamim critically injured.

Locals rushed Shamim to Harinakunda Upazila Health Complex, but the doctors on duty declared him dead. The officer-in-charge of Harinakunda police station, Mahbubur Rahman, confirmed the incident and informed that an investigation is underway. He also assured that legal action will be taken against those found involved in the attack.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined, and the police are currently collecting evidence and questioning witnesses. The news of Shamim’s death has shocked the community, and they are demanding justice for the slain leader. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further violence.

The Swechchhasebak League is a political organization affiliated with the ruling party in Bangladesh, the Awami League. The party members and leaders have expressed their condolences to Shamim’s family and have called for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
