These operations are often connected to licensed casinos and have proliferated in countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines. However, evidence suggests that even countries like the United Arab Emirates and Ghana have become hotspots for cyber slavery.

Once trapped, victims are held in guarded compounds, often connected to powerful politicians, and forced to commit fraud under threat of beatings and torture. Escape is nearly impossible, and those who are rescued often find themselves trapped in dire conditions in detention centers for months on end.

In the case of Ramos Miembro, she was sold to a Chinese online scam gang and forced to work for a fake crypto platform. She was given a script and forced to spend up to 20 hours a day sending wrong-number texts to strangers. Those who called for help were beaten or tortured. The conditions in these compounds are horrifying, with victims fearing for their lives.

Furthermore, there are allegations of corruption within the authorities. Multiple victims have reported witnessing high-ranking police officers entering the compounds to collect bribes. This corruption further perpetuates the cycle of trafficking and exploitation.
