A man has been arrested in Odisha, India, for allegedly murdering his wife and daughter by releasing a venomous snake into their room. The man, identified as K Ganesh Patra, aged 25, was reportedly having marital discord with his 23-year-old wife, K Basanti Patra. The incident took place on October 6 in Adheigaon village in the Ganjam district.
According to the police, the couple had previously faced issues that led to a complaint under the Dowry Prohibition Act. However, they had been living together for the past three months. The accused allegedly obtained a snake from a man, claiming it was for religious purposes. He then concealed the snake at their residence and released it into the bedroom where his wife and two-year-old daughter slept.

Initially, the case was registered as an unnatural death, but it took a turn when the father-in-law of the deceased lodged a complaint accusing Ganesh Patra of his involvement in the deaths. The accused was taken into custody a month after the incident, as the police needed time to collect evidence.
During interrogation, Ganesh Patra initially denied the allegations but later confessed to the crime. The Superintendent of Police, Jagmohan Meena, stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
This shocking incident has left the community in disbelief and has raised concerns about the safety and security of women and children. It serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic issues and providing support to those in need.
