A 25-year-old man in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife and two-year-old daughter by releasing a venomous snake into their room, according to the police. The incident occurred in Adheigaon village in Kabisurya Nagar area, located around 60 km from the district headquarters.
The accused, identified as K Ganesh Patra, was involved in a marital dispute with his 23-year-old wife K Basanti Patra. The couple got married in 2020 and had a two-year-old daughter named Debasmita.

The police revealed that the accused had deceived a snake charmer, stating that he needed the snake for religious purposes. He acquired a cobra, which he brought home in a plastic jar. The following morning, both were found dead from snake bites, while the accused slept in another room.
Initially, an unnatural death case was registered by the police. However, after the father-in-law lodged an FIR accusing the accused of involvement in the deaths, the police interrogated him further. Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Jagmohan Meena, stated that the accused was arrested a month after the incident due to delays in collecting evidence.
