21-Year-Old Ritesh Gagda Killed in Naxalite Attack at Chhattisgarh Iron Ore Mine

Tragedy struck an iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday when a 21-year-old worker was killed and another was injured in an explosion caused by Naxalites. The incident occurred at around 7.30 am as three workers were making their way to the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine. The mine, owned by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), has faced opposition from Naxalites for some time.

According to a senior police official, it appears that the workers accidentally triggered a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) while coming into contact with its connection. Ritesh Gagda, the deceased worker, and Umesh Rana, the injured worker, were immediately rushed to a local hospital. Sadly, Gagda succumbed to his injuries, while Rana is currently receiving medical treatment.

Following the blast, a search operation was initiated to locate Shravan Gagda (24), who is reported missing. Shravan was accompanying the two workers during the incident. The authorities are working tirelessly to find him and ensure his safety.

The iron ore mine, situated approximately 350 km away from the capital city of Raipur, has been a source of contention between Naxalites and JNIL. The Naxalites have vehemently opposed the project, leading to heightened tensions in the region.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by workers in conflict-ridden areas.
