21-year-old Ritesh Gagda killed and another worker injured in Naxalite attack at iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district

A 21-year-old worker was tragically killed and another was injured in a shocking incident at an iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. The incident occurred when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated on Friday morning.

According to the police, the explosion took place around 7:30 am as three workers were en route to the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine, which is situated approximately 350 km away from Raipur. Regrettably, one worker is still missing following the blast.

The iron ore mine is operated by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), and the Naxalites have been vehemently opposing the project for an extended period. The workers, unfortunately, came into contact with the pressure IED connection, triggering the devastating blast.

The deceased worker has been identified as Ritesh Gagda, while the injured worker is named Umesh Rana. Rana has been admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment. The search is currently underway for the missing worker, Shravan Gagda, aged 24, who was accompanying the other workers during the incident.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by workers in conflict areas. The Naxalites’ opposition to the iron ore mine project has resulted in the loss of innocent lives and disrupted the lives of many families.

Authorities are expected to intensify security measures in the region to prevent such incidents in the future. The local community and workers’ unions have expressed deep concern over the safety of workers and have called for increased protection at mining sites.
