Woman Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Killing Two State Troopers and Pedestrian in DUI Crash

A young woman, Jayana Webb, has been sentenced to 27 1/2 to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence in Philadelphia last year. The incident resulted in the deaths of two state troopers and a pedestrian.

The 23-year-old woman pleaded guilty to three counts each of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. District Attorney Larry Krasner described it as “one of the most shocking incidents of vehicular violence in recent memory” and deemed the sentencing a “just resolution.”

According to the police, Troopers Martin Mack III and Branden Sisca were attempting to assist a pedestrian on Interstate 95 when Webb’s vehicle, traveling at a high speed, struck all three individuals. The troopers and the pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old Reyes Rivera Oliveras, tragically lost their lives at the scene.

Webb, who is currently seven months pregnant, will remain out of custody until she gives birth in February. Afterward, she will be allowed some time to bond with her child before reporting to prison. Webb’s defense attorney, Michael Walker, stated that his client expressed deep sorrow and apologized to the victims’ families during the court proceedings. He mentioned that Webb will never forgive herself and acknowledged the punishment she now faces.

Previous court hearings focused on Webb’s blood alcohol content and her social media activity, including a post where she mentioned being stopped for speeding. Authorities reported that the troopers who pulled her over were redirected to help Oliveras, who was trying to cross the highway. Webb, attempting to pass the parked police vehicle at a high speed, ended up colliding with all three individuals. Prosecutors revealed that her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and traces of marijuana were also found in her system.

The tragic loss of Troopers Mack and Sisca has deeply impacted the law enforcement community. Mack had been serving since 2014 and was assigned to the Philadelphia barracks, while Sisca enlisted in 2021 and had a promising career ahead of him. State Police Commissioner Col. Robert Evanchick mourned their untimely deaths, stating that their lives were senselessly cut short.
