Firing Case Near Mazgaon Circle: Two Arrested for Attempted Murder

MUMBAI: The Byculla police have made significant progress in the investigation of a firing incident that occurred near Mazgaon Circle on November 18. Two individuals, including the person who provided the country-made pistol to one of the accused, have been arrested.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Imran alias Babu Shaikh (33) and Aurangzeb alias Sheru Khan (33). They were apprehended on Wednesday and produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody until November 24. Satya Narayan Chaudhri, joint commissioner of police, law and order, confirmed the arrests.

According to initial investigations, the accused claimed that their intention was to intimidate the complainant and his associates, who are involved in the gutkha business, and extort money from them. The Byculla police had registered a case of attempted murder under the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.

The incident occurred at approximately 3am when three individuals were sitting together. Two men on a motorcycle arrived at the scene, and one of them brandished a firearm and fired a shot at the group. Fortunately, the bullet struck a stone and did not harm anyone. The police are now searching for the shooter and the conspirator, whose identity remains undisclosed.

In related news, two men were recently arrested for firing at a jeweller in Pune and stealing cash and ornaments worth Rs1.1 lakh. The police recovered two country-made pistols from the suspects’ rented house. Another arrest was made in connection with the theft of one of the bikes used in the crime.

Additionally, the prime accused in the Karimganj temple arson case sustained a bullet injury while attempting to flee from the police. Anwar Ali was apprehended in Tripura and led the police to a hidden gun. However, during his escape attempt, he was shot by the police and is currently receiving treatment at the Karimganj civil hospital.

Lastly, two individuals were arrested in Delhi for assaulting a 28-year-old factory laborer from Bihar. The assailants beat him and inserted an iron rod into his anus. The victim’s condition is critical, and he is the sole breadwinner for his family. The police have charged the perpetrators with unnatural offenses and attempted murder.

These recent incidents highlight the need for swift and decisive action by law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
