The body of a 13-year-old girl who went missing at a stream in Chittanappara, near Bharananganam, on Wednesday evening has been found. The girl, identified as Helen Alex, accidentally fell into the stream and was swept away by the strong currents. She was returning home from school at the time of the incident. A rescue team launched a search operation in the waterbody, which flows towards the Meenachil river. Sadly, her body was discovered around 25 km downstream in Kandanchira, near Peroor. The body has been taken to Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, for a post-mortem examination.
In a separate incident, a 71-year-old woman is still missing after falling into a stream in Naranganam, Pathanamthitta, on Wednesday. The heavy rain that hit the region caused significant damage in five villages of the Konni taluk. One house was completely destroyed, and seven others were damaged due to the rain. The surging waters also caused road washouts, leading to traffic disruptions and delaying rescue missions. The concrete lining of the Pampa Irrigation Canal also sustained damage.

Officials estimate that crops in over 56 hectares of land have been destroyed, resulting in a loss of around ₹1 crore in the agricultural sector. A team led by the Konni tahsildar visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage. The rescue officials continue their efforts to locate the missing woman and provide assistance to those affected by the heavy rainfall.
