Protest Held Over Custodial Death
REASI, Nov 23: Family members and relatives of a youth who died in police custody at Katra Police Station held a strong protest demonstration demanding justice. The deceased, identified as Arjun Kumar (26), son of Mohinder Kumar of Kotli Bajalna in Katra, allegedly attempted to escape from police custody and jumped off from the rooftop of the police station, resulting in his death.

SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta, stated that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause and circumstances of death, while an investigation under Section 176 CrPC has also been initiated.
Arjun Kumar, who was allegedly involved in theft and NDPS cases, was taken to the Police Station Katra for questioning along with another accused. In an attempt to escape, he rushed towards the rooftop and jumped off, sustaining a fatal head injury. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local hospital.
However, the family members and relatives of the deceased expressed their outrage over the custodial killing and demanded stern action against the policemen responsible for Arjun Kumar’s death. The protesters also blocked the road, prompting senior police and civil officers to reach the spot and announce a magisterial inquiry into the case.
Following a postmortem conducted by a board of doctors, the deceased’s body was handed over to the family members.
