Police Constable Jaspal Singh Killed in Clash Between Nihang Factions at Gurdwara Sri Akal Bunga Sahib in Punjab

A police constable was tragically killed and six others were injured during a violent clash between two Nihang factions in Punjab’s Kapurthala district. The incident occurred at Gurdwara Sri Akal Bunga Sahib, where the factions were competing to gain control.

The constable who lost his life has been identified as Jaspal Singh. The clash took place when the police attempted to apprehend some Nihangs who were involved in a previous case. According to a senior police official, the Nihangs opened fire on the officers, resulting in the death of Constable Jaspal Singh.

Senior officials have arrived at the scene, and a significant number of police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain order. The identities of those responsible for the gunfire are still unknown. Tensions between the two groups had been escalating over the past few days due to a dispute over the possession of the gurdwara. The police and civil administration had been attempting to mediate a resolution.

Prior to the clash, Baba Budha Dal 96 Karori Sant Balbir Singh had been in control of Gurdwara Sri Akal Bunga, with Nirvair Singh and Jagjit Singh managing it on his behalf. However, on November 21, Sant Baba Man Singh, leading a splinter faction, forcibly entered the gurdwara and took control. They attacked Nirvair Singh and Jagjit Singh, confiscated weapons, phones, and money.

As a result of the incident, a case was filed against Baba Man Singh and his associates at Sultanpur Lodhi police station. The situation remains tense as investigations continue and efforts are made to restore peace and stability in the area.
