Parika Housewife Cherriel Fredricks Chopped by Husband After Refusing to Reconcile – Guyana Times Home News

A Parika housewife was viciously attacked by her husband after refusing to reconcile with him. The incident occurred on Wednesday at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and left the woman hospitalized with severed fingers.

The victim, identified as 48-year-old Cherriel Fredricks, had moved out of their shared home three weeks prior due to a misunderstanding between the couple. She had sought refuge with her sister in Parika Backdam.

On the day of the attack, the husband, who works as a farmer, went to his wife’s sister’s house to plead for her return. Fredricks, however, was hesitant to reconcile, leading to a physical altercation. In an attempt to pull her out of the yard, the husband grabbed her hand, prompting her to strike him with a rolling pin.

Witnessing the altercation, the victim’s daughter intervened with a cutlass in hand. Unfortunately, the husband managed to disarm her and turned his attention back to his wife. He repeatedly chopped her left hand.

After the attack, the husband tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by local residents who tied him up before handing him over to the police. The discarded cutlass was also recovered and turned over as evidence.

Fredricks was initially taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Her injuries are severe, and she remains hospitalized.

Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in police custody pending charges. The incident has sparked outrage within the community, highlighting the urgent need for addressing domestic violence and providing support to victims.
