One more terrorist and a soldier killed in Rajouri gunfight

Srinagar, Nov 23: A soldier and another terrorist were killed on Thursday in a gunfight in Rajouri, bringing the total death toll to seven, including two terrorists and five soldiers, according to officials.

The operation was launched in the Kalakote area of Gulabgarh forest in Rajouri based on specific intelligence, said White Knight Corps in a tweet. The firefight began on November 22, and the terrorists were injured and surrounded. The Indian Army is currently conducting operations to prevent collateral damage to women and children.

According to sources, a soldier injured in the gunfight today succumbed to his injuries, bringing the total number of army men killed in the encounter to five. Two terrorists were killed in the gunfight, one of whom was identified as Quari, a Pakistani national affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was trained on the Pakistan-Afghanistan front and was a highly ranked terrorist leader. Quari had been active in the Rajouri-Poonch area for the past year and was believed to be the mastermind behind several attacks.

The spokesman for the Jammu-based Defence stated that Quari was sent to revive terrorism in the region and was an expert in IEDs, operating and hiding from caves, and a trained sniper.

The encounter between the terrorists and the security forces in the dense forests of Baaji Maal in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district entered its second day on Thursday, with heavy gunfire exchanged by both sides. The encounter began after security forces received intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the Baaji Maal forests and launched a search operation.

The situation remains tense as security forces continue their operations to neutralize the remaining terrorists and ensure the safety of civilians in the area.
