A shocking incident has taken place in Odisha’s Ganjam district, where a man allegedly hatched an insidious murder plot to kill his wife and two-year-old daughter. The accused, identified as 25-year-old K Ganesh Patra, reportedly released a venomous cobra inside the room where his family was sleeping. Tragically, both his wife, K Basanti Patra, and their daughter, Debasmita, died due to snake bites.

The incident occurred a month and a half ago in Adheigaon village, but the accused was only arrested on Thursday. According to the police, Ganesh and his wife had been involved in a marital dispute. It is believed that this dispute led Ganesh to carry out this heinous act.

In an attempt to deceive the snake charmer, Ganesh fraudulently obtained the cobra by claiming it was for a religious ritual. He brought the snake home in a plastic jar and set it loose in the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping. The following morning, the lifeless bodies of Basanti and Debasmita were discovered, while Ganesh slept in another room.

Initially, the police registered a case of unnatural death, but further investigation revealed the sinister truth. Ganesh’s father-in-law filed a complaint accusing him of murder, prompting the police to question the accused. At first, Ganesh denied the allegations, claiming that the snake may have entered the room on its own. However, he eventually confessed to the crime.

The Indian cobra, also known as the spectacled cobra, is highly venomous. Its venom contains powerful neurotoxins and cardiotoxins, which can paralyze muscles and cause respiratory failure or cardiac arrest. Prompt administration of an antidote is crucial to survival.

The police have arrested Ganesh, but the investigation is still ongoing. It is a tragic reminder of the potential dangers that exist within relationships and the need for peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
