Nobu, the famous restaurant owned by actor Robert De Niro, has responded to the $500,000 sexual harassment case it is currently facing. Lawyers for the sushi eatery have criticized a restaurant hostess who is suing the chain, claiming that she is to blame for the alleged harassment. The 23-year-old woman, referred to as Jane Doe, has accused staff and patrons of subjecting her and other female workers to unwanted advances and making them wear revealing clothes. She specifically mentioned a manager named Marcus who repeatedly touched her inappropriately.
According to documents obtained by DailyMail.com, the restaurant’s legal team argues that the hostess “consented to, caused or ratified” the alleged conduct. The woman first filed her lawsuit in September and is seeking $500,000 in damages. Another female staffer, identified as Jane Doe 2, is also seeking $500 million for similar claims. Nobu, which has more than 50 locations worldwide, is requesting the dismissal of the first case and for the hostess to cover the restaurant’s legal expenses and provide compensation.

This lawsuit comes at a time when Robert De Niro is already embroiled in a legal battle. The actor’s former assistant successfully sued him for gender discrimination and sexual harassment, resulting in his company being ordered to pay her $1.2 million. The assistant, Graham Chase Robinson, claimed that De Niro verbally abused her and made inappropriate requests, including asking for back-scratches.
Lawyers representing Nobu, Kevin Wattles and Rachel Marko, have stated that the restaurant “generally denies” all the allegations made by Jane Doe 1 and argues that it is not responsible for any damages. Despite the controversy surrounding the restaurant, it remains a popular celebrity hotspot known for its high-quality sushi and vibrant atmosphere.
